One of mom's goals for this summer was for us to learn how to cook in a Dutch oven over a campfire. We have not had too much success with this in the past, but it is a good and helpful skill to know. So one night a week, she assigned us to dry different recipes and cook dinner together in pairs. The first Dutch Oven dinner fell to Sarah and Samuel to cook together. Despite their efforts to cook a delicious Bryant Family Farm beef roast, you can see the results above. The lining they used in the Dutch Oven caught fire and burned everything in the pot.
This week Rachael and Jonathan had a turn, and learning from previous mistakes, their pot roast turned out excellent. After a days' hard outdoor work, everyone gathered to enjoy a hearty meal out on the porch together. The tasty "campfire" flavor was wonderful!
What are some of your Dutch Oven cooking experiences? Do you have a favorite recipe you have tried? We'd be interested to hear!

"Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth,
and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion,
and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God."
